Preview: The AFL 2020 season kicks off with its traditional Thursday night opener between Carlton and Richmond.  This year it is Richmonds turn to host, unfurling the 2019 flag in front of 90,000 Tiger members.  Book your tickets as soon as they come out.  You can guarantee it to be dreadfully difficult for any Carlton supporters to get a seat.

Carlton will go in as long priced underdogs, but as the first game of the year always shows us – anything is possible.  I don’t think any of us could forget the opening game of 2018, again after Richmond unfurling a flag, that we piled on a swag of unanswered goals in the first term with Charlie Curnow going mad.  It looked then like we were in for a good season.  How wrong we were!

Charlie Curnow won’t take part in round one this year. Realistically we probably won’t see him until after the mid season break.  Harry McKay and Mitch McGovern are racing the clock to be fit, so who is going to kick our goals? It maybe a small, quick forward line rotating through the middle that might get the job done.  Imagine if Eddie Betts kicks the first goal.  It will sound like our home game.
